2009 Nanticoke Powwow

I've just realized that the 2009 Nanticoke Powwow is this weekend: September 12th & 13th.  I missed it last year unfortunately but fully intend on going this weekend.  If you've never been, you should try it.

The powwow is an event featuring group singing and dancing by men,  women, and  children.  Some of the dances are specifically for Native Americans while others are open to all comers.   Click on this link to get an explanation of some of the dances you'll see this weekend.  As well as singing and dancing there's usually crafts, and food a plenty.

In subsequent posts this week I'll add links to some of the photographs I made at previous powwows.  These should give you a good idea of some of the activities, and diversity of regalia worn by members of the various tribes represented.

The powwow is held just outside Millsboro.  It's usually well signposted so it'll be easy to find.  Hope to see you there.
